For Kolton's basketball team I decided to take the videos I had made of some of the games and make a highlight DVD for everyone. I spent hours and hours watching the videos, making notes of when different kids did what within those videos and cropping them all and putting them together and then adding music to it. While doing this Bentley had a lot of time to discover playing on his own. :) One afternoon I decided to take a few pictures of him because I feel like I have hardly any of him that I take with the real camera and not my phone. Anyway, these are all in the order I took them and all take place within about a 3 minute period. He was all over the place with his emotions. Haha. He is such a funny guy and makes the most hilarious faces! We just love him! And as you can see, he is starting to get a little fuzz on the top of his head. It makes it harder to snuggle with him now because his hair tickles my nose now, whereas I used to cuddle up to a smooth head. Haha.
At least we ended the photoshoot with a kiss. :)
I am the camp director for our ward and so I had to come up with an idea for a fundraiser. I decided it would be fun for the girls to make chocolate dipped strawberries and pretzels for Valentine's Day. We got together on two night and made and delivered a TON of goodies. We ended up having to make 170 pretzels and 340 strawberries. It was crazy but it was awesome! We profited $600 and I'm proud of the work the girls put in to it. It was a lot of fun, but I am glad it is over! It was just a lot to think about. Now, I can focus on the task of planning the actual camp. :)
As we walked out to the parking lot one day after grocery shopping Bentley decided he could stand in the little car. He seriously was so proud of himself and kept turning and looking at me and giving me the biggest smile. It was awesome!
Valentine's morning Brady and I went to the temple. We went to the 10:30 session and got back around 1:45. Kolton had his team party that afternoon at 2:30 in Mustang (which was a 45 minute drive away). So, we got home and changed as fast as we could and packed up to go. We ended up being a couple minutes late but Kolton still had tons of time to run and play. We watched most of the video I made and I'm so glad I made it. The kids really seemed to enjoy watching themselves. Then the kids decided they wanted to play lasertag and so they did that and loved it. It was a fun party! We brought Beckett home with us because his dad had to leave early to go out to dinner for Valentine's day. We grabbed some Chinese on the way home and let the kids play and eat. Brady gave me some perfume and I gave him a red watch he had been wanting. It was a fun, relaxing Valentine's day.
SCARY STORY: So on Sunday, February 15th, we went to the Hime's for dessert. By the time we got home it was about 8:30. Bentley was pretty tired so I was going to put him to bed right when we got home. We came in and I was trying to put his pajamas on but he was fighting me and yelling and screaming. I finished putting on his pajamas and then put him on the floor so he could finish his fit. When I put him down he let out his scream and did the thing where it takes a minute before the next scream. Only, the next one didn't come and didn't come and didn't come. Kolton went and picked him up off the floor to try and cheer him up and when he did Brady noticed his face was turning blue. He grabbed Bentley from Kolton and started rubbing his belly, trying to get him to take a breath. It was the scariest minute of our lives. His face even looked scared. It was so sad! He was blue all around his mouth and up into his nose. Finally he took a breath and instantly his face was calmer. I still remember the feeling of panic like it just happened this morning. I just sat there saying his name, pleading him to take a breath. Man, it was the worst. We were then afraid to have him sleep in his bed, for fear that we would think he had stopped crying to go to sleep but was really just holding his breath. Luckily, he has not done it since that day and I hope it stays that way! I never want to experience that again!
On President's Day, the 16th, school got canceled because we had received some sleet and the roads were slick. We decided to go sledding!! It was so so fun! We were the only ones on the hill and it was a blast. Bentley even loved it and kept trying to climb up the hill himself so he could go again. Kolton of course was crazy and made Brady spin him and would go down in all different directions. It was so fun and I'm so glad we spent the hour getting all dressed up to go! haha.
February 18th we watched the Himes while Mark and Jill went to go see the Nashville Tribute band. The kids had a blast, as usual, and just played and played until they could play no more and then they watched a movie and ate popcorn. :)
Oh Bentley sure does love his brother. I love watching their relationship grow. And I am continually amazed and impressed with how sweet Kolton is to him. I'm not even exaggerating. He puts up with so much from Bentley and just takes it in stride and is nothing but nice to him, even if Bentley is being a stinker. I love watching them together. Bentley is a big cuddler, too, so it was cute one day when he woke up from his nap, all he wanted was to have Brother hold him.
The Foys came to town on the 20th. They came by that afternoon and hung out for a bit and then left to go to dinner with friends and family. We stayed behind and kept Kade with us. We then met up with them at Justin Bean's basketball game. I got a babysitter for Bentley because the game didn't start until 7:30 and Bentley goes down at 7:00 and so I thought it would just be better for everyone if he was able to be put down at his normal time. Kolton was in heaven having Kade in town. Those two are just the best of friends and I love it. We had a lot of fun at Justin's game and they ended up winning in overtime against a team that demolished them last time they played so that was awesome. After the game we ended up going to Braum's and eating some ice cream. We got home around 11:00 so it was good we got a babysitter for Bentley! :)
Saturday morning the boys went and played lasertag at Heydey. Kolton loves lasertagging now! He thinks it is so fun! Then, after lunch the Foys came over and hung out for a little bit. It is always so easy to hang out with them and we are just so grateful to have that friendship. They then left to go back to the Bean's house and then the Himes came over. Jill and I were taking our boys to the mother/son soiree at the Orr Family Farm. Jill got tickets and so she told me I should go buy tickets so then I invited Brittney since they were going to be there that weekend. So, we all went together. The boys were not excited about it haha but we made them go. They were all so cute!
Kolton actually warmed up once we got there and wanted to dance with me and everything. It was awesome and I really, truly loved that time I was able to spend with him. He was so cute wanting to lead and show me what moves we should do and then when we were standing in line to get our picture taken he was so sweet with me and it just warmed my heart. When we were in line to get some food he got my napkin for me and plate and everything. He was being quite the gentleman.
Kolton's stomach starting hurting, unfortunately, so he stopped having as much fun and then we ended up leaving around 8:30. He, though, ended up liking it and doing better than the other boys. Haha. I know, now, though, that that is just the thing for us. I definitely want to do other mother/son dates but we will just have to do our own thing. :)
Speaking of Kolton's stomach...he had his well-child check up finally on Monday, the 23rd. I asked the Dr what could be causing his stomach to hurt all the time. I thought maybe he was having a milk allergy of some sort but the doctor said that that is accompanied with diarrhea and vomiting which Kolton doesn't have. He started asking Kolton questions and came to the conclusion that he has acid reflux. I don't know why the heck I couldn't think of that...it only runs in Brady's family with nearly every member! Poor kid. Because I thought it was a milk allergy I wouldn't let him drink his milk with his cereal or drink milk ever but that is actually what he needed. So I pretty much was doing all the wrong things. At least now, we have it figured out. We got him on a liquid zantac and seriously, his stomach hasn't hurt since. It is awesome. I am so glad we were able to figure it out.
Tuesday Bentley had his appointment with the ENT. At his well child check the doctor asked how many words he says. I told him none and asked when we should be concerned about that. His reply was "now." Haha. So, they tested him for fluid behind his ears and sure enough he did so they referred us to an ENT. Anyway, at the ENT they did a hearing test and he had mild hearing loss and then they tested for fluid also and discovered he did indeed have fluid. The doctor then looked in his ears and said yes, he would be a good candidate for tubes. I explained to him that our insurance was running out on Saturday and we wouldn't have new insurance until May 1st because Brady switched jobs so he checked the schedule and was able to squeeze us in on Thursday morning. It kind of freaked me out to do it but I knew we needed to. We had to arrive at the hospital at 5:00 in the morning on Thursday and his surgery was scheduled for 7:00. The poor kid wasn't allowed to have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before so for those two hours he kept asking us for food and drinks and was sad we wouldn't give him some. He actually did great waiting, though, to be honest and was taken back right at 7:00. He didn't have to have any IVs or anything so that was nice, too! The nurses just picked him up off the bed and walked out with him. He just stared at them all confused as they walked down the hall. It made me so sad I couldn't be there with him to comfort him. Brady was able to be there until about 7:30 and then he had to leave to go to work because he doesn't have any vacation or sick days until June 1st.
It took them about 20 minutes before they came and told me he was done and was in the recovery room to wake up and they'd bring him to me when he was awake so luckily Brady was able to hear that he was done and ok before he had to leave. The doctor said he was SO glad we did it because he had tons of "thick, yucky fluid." (I later heard him come report to the parents next door to us and didn't say the same thing to them, so I know he meant it when he said it to us haha.) I could hear his little whine as they were coming down the hall. When I took him from the nurse he just clinged on to my shirt with both hands. It was seriously the saddest thing and just broke my heart. He was probably so scared and confused. I fed him a granola bar and gave him some juice and then we left. They gave us a prescription for ear drops we had to give him for three days so I dropped those off on the way home and for the entire drive he had to hold my finger. My arm was killing me by the time we got home but I just couldn't let him be sad. We cuddled and napped for the rest of the morning and then he started playing and acting happy. We napped together again that afternoon and just relaxed. Hopefully this will help him talk better and he will start saying words soon.
Friday my friend Joni came over to help work on girls camp stuff and Bentley refused to take a nap. After they left I sat down with him on the couch and he fell asleep within seconds. He was tuckered out!
Saturday we got a few inches of snow and Kolton wanted to go play in it so I got he and Bentley all dressed up so they could go play. I thought Bentley would only last a couple minutes but he didn't want to come in! He loved it and was so cute out there!
Kolton, of course, was super sweet and stayed with Bentley and got him all excited about the snow. It was so cute!
And then of course, I'm left with the mess of it all. Haha.
It was a great month and full of so many fun memories!
