We went to go see the new elephant exhibit first (which is awesome!) and on our way back we watched the chimps for a few seconds. They weren't doing anything so we continued walking. As we walked off they started going crazy. They were making tons of noise so we decided to go back and watch. We put the boys on the fence ledge and watched as the chimps beat up another one and did all these weird swaying/dancing moves in front of the fence. One just walked up to another one and hit him repeatedly on the back chasing him off.

There was one little baby there that was so cute! Well, while we were watching a worker told us we needed to leave the area immediately. Apparently it was a "code red." Tons of workers were jogging/riding in cars to get there and get everyone away.
Afterwards I read on the internet that one of the chimps had gotten over the electric fence and into a dry moat. A code red is issued when an animal is out of its exhibit. Mwami was the suspect. I guess this isn't the first time he's escaped. He is the dominant male in the group and is supposed to breed with two females. This doesn't make the dominant female very happy since he prefers her sister and so the dominant females lashes out and attacks Mwami (sometimes other chimps join in). According to the news, I guess they are thinking about putting her (Abby) on birth control to tame her and curve her desire to breed which will hopefully decrease the number of her attacks if not rid them completely. Kind of interesting. We also let the boys play at the park they have.

Oh how I love me some Emery kisses!! :)
The male lion was actually visible too which was nice! He came walking up (only for a few minutes) and cuddled with the female there.

Here's Kolton watching the elephants in their new exhibit. Its huge! I think it is awesome!

We were walking through the zoo and one animal got pretty close to Kolton! :) I made sure he didn't feed him any of his yogurt covered raisins and while Kolton thought it was cool it was that close, it kind of made him a little nervous too.

The boys had fun watching the tiger who was pacing in his exhibit. Kolton expected it to roar (like it did last time) so he was a little disappointed that it didn't do that for him but enjoyed watching him just the same (you like how I assume all animals are boys...?).

Picture of the three boys. This picture took a lot of work. :)

I asked Kolton to pose with his pretzels and the tiger and he started getting all nervous. He wouldn't turn around and put his back towards the tiger. He asked me "Mom?! The tiger won't get me right? Since it is behind the fence, it can't get me?!"

We then tried to take a picture of all the kids sitting on the tiger statue. Pretty much impossible...

We went to the elephant demo that afternoon at the zoo. It was packed in there! Kolton was SO excited for it to start and to see the elephants do tricks! After a slight delay (they couldn't get the gates to work) they started and Kolton couldn't be more happy!

The elephants were so cute doing their little "tricks."

We had a great time at the zoo! Seriously one of the most eventful ones for me. All the animals were wonderful and we had a little excitement thrown in there as well.
